Video and audio files contain a wide range of information, from technical details, like resolution or bitrate to certain tag info, like artist, album, year and so on. Unfortunately, you can not find this information by conventional means, at least not in the same place. If an audio file's name is not clear, its metadata will help you figure out who plays the song, when and so on. With MediaInfo, you can view any relevant details about your audio or video files. The software displays the information in different modes and it places various options at your disposal.

MediaInfo is available for numerous operating systems, including Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Ubuntu, Fedora, Solaris and others. The setup file is roughly 4 MB, so you can download the application quite fast. If you opt for the Windows version, you can run it on any edition, from Win 95 to Win 8.

All you have to do is load your files on MediaInfo's interface. The software lets you add individual files, one by one or entire folders. Once loaded, their technical details and tag information will appear on the interface immediately. You can switch between different view modes at any time, by selecting one from a pop-up menu or from the View menu.

MediaInfo displays various details, such as format, size, length, album, track name, artist, genre and more. If you enable the Basic view mode, you will find this information for one file at a time and you can select different files from a drop menu. If you opt for the Sheet mode, your files will appear in a table of contents. If you select a file, you can find its relevant information beneath the table of contents.

The software can also display information in a tree structure, as plain text, in HTML, XML or other formats. It is possible to export the information in various formats, which reflect on each view mode. You can save it as an Excel spreadsheet, as a CSV, XML or a HTML file, in plain text format and more.

Pros

MediaInfo provides you with a vast range of information about individual files. It supports different view modes and it lets you export the information, in various formats. The application is available for numerous operating systems and it is free.

Cons

Closing the general settings menu will reset the main window's position and size. Everything you need to know about your media files can be found on MediaInfo's user friendly interface. Just load your files and the application will provide you with numerous details immediately.
